A shout out for VOLUNTEERS!!

SCLAers-

We have some volunteer opportunities that have just popped up!

Saturday August 25 the folks at WE SPORT U are hosting a punt/pass and kick contest at Longs Peak Middle School.  Volunteers are needed to man the stations, measure and record.  If you are interested in helping contact Cindy at cindy@wesportu.com   This event is open to boys and girls.  Anyone 15 and under  can still compete in this event.    The folks at WE SPORT U are members of our SCLA family.  It would  be great to help them out!  wesportu.com

Help out during lunch!

Monday and Wednesday Aug. 27 and 29 the school will be handing out new ID cards during both lunches.   Mr. Majerus' class  is  going to be leading the way, so you would be pared with one student to help them out at the table.  Help our school community!  Contact Ann in the front office if you can help.  Bring a sack lunch and help during your lunch time!

Get back into the school spirit by donating some of your time to make Longmont, and our school a better place to live!!

ALSO-

THIS JUST IN!

MEET 18 YEAR OLD RAE HEIM- Running across America BAREFOOT to help raise awareness and funds for Soles 4 Souls.  She will be at SCHS FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL in E-203.  Come hear her amazing story!!

LEADERS IN TRAINING

The Silver Creek Leadership Academy just collected applications from the graduating class of 2016.  Our students, who began the program, will be seniors next fall. So much has happened and so much continues to happen.  While we are thrilled with the progress there is much work to be done!   When the school year kicks off next fall we hope to have 250 students in our program.

A quick sampling of the curriculum:

Complete overview-
We exist to help students find their strengths and unleash their potential to lead.
We operate under the premise that there are 6 main leadership skills, and while mastering them will take a lifetime, a solid understanding of them while in high school will set students on a path for success.

THE BIG 6
  • Ethics
  • Respect
  • Critcal and Creative thinking
  • Teamwork
  • Vision
  • Communication
  •
 9th grade-  Introduction to Leadership
What is leadership?  What are the skills that help leaders be successful? What is my roadmap for success? How do I make a difference now?

10th grade- Global and Cultural Leadership
What are the cultural commonalities that connect people? How do I become more respectful? How do leaders make a difference around the world?

11th grade- Local and Community Leadership
How do I make a difference in my community here and now?  How do I deal with difficult people? How do I become a better listener?  What projects can I do to help my community?

12th grade- Senior Capstone Project
Students select a project, and while working with a mentor create an impactful project.

How do we do that?  With a hands-on, experiential learning module that combines real life applications with solid course work.
